Lockdown can be a great excuse to look back at our family albums, flick through the pages and glance at the many faces that fill our family tree. Over the last few days I have been learning a new retouching process, were by adding a splash of colour to vintage photographs, this process is called Colourising. This involves layering and digitally painting on a program (us photographers love) Photoshop. It took some discussion with my family to decide on the colours to use for the clothing and backgrounds etc. The whole process igniting my interested in the value of family and history of my family roots. The added colour brings the images to life, adding depth and charity to each character's personality. With the recent passing of my Grandfather, this project brought my family closer, connecting with distant relatives that I haven't spoken to since I was a child and meeting people I had never met before. I have discovered more about the previous generations. It has sparked a drive in gathering knowledge of who and what made my family we are today. These old images offer us value and generate lost family stories and memories. I hope to keep this project going, discovering old phtographs bringing them to the 21st century and give them a proud place in our family album. So if you have any old photographs in your albums treasure them and keep them safe. I am offering my colourising service for £10 per image - so get in touch if you have any images you would like me to fix up.
