It's Earth Day!

4/21/2020

Picture
Hey everyone, this post is all about Earth day, this year it falls on Wednesday the 22nd of April!  What's that you say? A day to celebrate and demonstrate environmental protection. It first came about in 1970, this year will be the 50th celebration. I'm passionate about sustainable living and supporting environmental change. It isn't always possible, but everyone does their bit even if it’s small. We can tackle climate change together. I have written and gathered resources from the wonderful internet to make a little blog post about activities you can do with the children at home and products you can buy.
Activities
Here are some quick ideas for celebrating Earth Day with your children:
  • Plant some seedlings in your garden or park. Even better collect some apple seeds or seeds from other plants/veggies in your fridge.
  • Go for a bike ride or a long walk as part of your daily exercise (please be responsible and practise social distancing).
  • Hold a nature "scavenger hunt" (send the kids out into the garden or park in teams to collect - or spot - various items on a list you provide).
  • Print out some posters, Twinkl is a good website to find these. Talk about saving water when brushing teeth and saving energy by turning off the lights when you leave a room.
  • Bake your favourite cookie or biscuit recipe and let the kids decorate with icing to look like the planet earth.
  • When you go out for walk, collect some litter and clean-up.
  • Look through your shelves and find some books to give away via your local charity shop or library when they opens again.

Here are some great resources I have found
