After speaking to some parents about their children’s anxiety and inevitable boredom, I have put together an activity for everyone to try at home this weekend.
So get ready for some creativity!
This tutorial is very popular at the moment, it's a great one and you can create a sweet keepsake. I have written down the ingredients and a step by step guide.
Preheat oven on the lowest setting.
Once you have your boiling water pour Into a bowl (preferably a glass one), then add the salt little by little NOT all at once. Keep mixing until you have dissolved most of the salt (don’t worry if it doesn’t all dissolve, just as much as possible). Then slowly add the flour and keep mixing (start with a spoon or it will stick to your hands), once it really thickens use your hands to shape into a dough ball, it should look and feel like playdough. This is where I needed to add more flour because mine was a little sticky.
Next, roll out - but make sure you have at least 2cm thickness.
Then make your shapes!! I used some cookie cutters to make my little ninjas, shaped some hearts and then (because is don’t have children) used my Cat and my hand - trust me it was very hard to keep him still!
Place all your masterpieces onto a tray and place in the oven, keep the temperature low, so the mixture doesn’t burn or cook. Leave for about two hours in the oven .Mine went slightly brown which means my oven was too hot, so unfortunately my hand print didn't make it! If you really don’t want to use the oven - leave on the side for 24 hours to air-dry.
Once done, leave to cool before painting! As mine came out brown, I painted a white base to make it easier to paint. I used Acrylic paint but Poster paint will work fine too. Once the paint is dry you can add PVA Glue to stop the paint fainting over time and to make it shiny.
Da-da! You have lovely keepsakes!
These are mine, I think the Cat's print came out the best. I felt I could have done better with the Ninja designs!
I would love to see your final results, so please drop me our photos!
Have a lovely Easter weekend and enjoy this time with family, stay home and take care xx
